Jamie Overton plays for Adelaide Strikers in the ongoing BBL 2024-25 season.

Tempers flared between England all-rounder Jamie Overton and New Zealand power-hitter Finn Allen during their clash in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25.

On Tuesday, the Adelaide Strikers hosted the Perth Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval in match No. 17 of the season, in which the visitors emerged victorious by seven wickets.

Perth chased down the target of 143 runs comfortably in 14.3 overs, with Allen top-scoring with 50 off 23 balls. The dynamic opener hammered four fours and three sixes in his innings.

He had a fiery exchange with Adelaide’s Overton, who ran him out at the non-striker’s but didn’t appeal and let him off with a warning, though quite an agitated one.

Overton had leaked 18 runs in his first over in Perth’s innings as Allen and Cooper Connolly made use of the powerplay overs. Overton was rattled by that and then exchanged heated words with both the batsmen.

In his next over, Overton ran Allen out when the Kiwi backed up a just a bit outside the bowling crease. But the pacer didn’t appeal. As he walked back to his bowling mark, Overton animatedly gestured a warning signal to Allen and indicated the same to the umpire.

Allen then hit Overton for a six on the off-side to close out the over. The Englishman had a poor night as he conceded 27 runs in two wicketless overs.

Ravi Ashwin reacts to Jamie Overton’s mankad warning to Allen

Former India spinner Ravi Ashwin has reacted to Overton’s warning for a run-out at the non-striker’s end of Allen. Ashwin, famous for his run-out of Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end in the IPL 2019, welcomed Overton to the “tribe”.

“Our vibe shall attract the tribe Jamie,” Ashwin tweeted.
