Ravi Ashwin explains how MS Dhoni as a captain made Indian players feel secure

Indian Cricket Team last won an ICC title under MS Dhoni's leadership in 2013.
Ravi Ashwin talked about former India captain MS Dhoni’s leadership and said that he gave the player a sense of security as he more or less played with the same set of players throughout the years, not making many changes.
The World Test Championship (WTC) final loss of Team India to Australia did not go over well with the supporters and a few former players. The scars are still raw more than a fortnight after the crushing defeat at The Oval.
More than that, the fact that the no.1 ranked Test bowler Ravi Ashwin was dropped from the playing XI to accommodate an extra pacer in Umesh Yadav, the decision to do so was heavily criticized. Also, captain Rohit's decision to bowl first on a flat track was questioned by several current and former players.
MS Dhoni gave a player a sense of security during his time as India captain: Ravichandran Ashwin
Team India last won an ICC title in 2013 when MS Dhoni was captain. The team has since lost four championship games, including back-to-back WTC finals.
The 36-year-old Ashwin expressed his opinions over the social media posts that the team was the target of.
He also gave an explanation of why Dhoni was such a successful captain, by touching upon the fact that Dhoni rarely made many changes in the playing XI, and most of the time the same 15 players played for India throughout the year, giving the players sense of security.
"It is understandable that there's a furor in India that we haven't won an ICC trophy in 10 years. I empathize with the fans. But the reaction on social media is that this player should be dropped and that player should be included. But the quality of a player doesn't change overnight. A lot of us talk about MS Dhoni's leadership.
What did he do? He kept it very simple. Under his regime, where I also played, he will pick a squad of 15. The same squad of 15 and the XI will play throughout the year. That sense of security is very important for a player," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin is expected to be seen in action when India tour West Indies for two Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is in July.
