Ravi Ashwin breaks his silence on BCCI directing centrally contracted players to participate in domestic cricket
Ravi Ashwin feels BCCI’s stance on Ranji Trophy might not suite all players.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a strict warning to centrally contracted Indian players to participate in Indian domestic tournaments. The BCCI took a step when their young players like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan decided to skip Ranji Trophy even when they were not playing for India. Miffed BCCI decided to mandate all centrally contracted players to participate in all Indian domestic cricket tournaments.
Meanwhile, ace Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has given his opinion on the same during an interview with The Indian Express. Ashwin said during an interaction that this decision might not suit every player and might be detrimental to a few players. Ashwin is India’s one of the biggest match-winners in test cricket and he recently became second Indian bowler to complete 500 test wickets.
Ashwin supports BCCI’s decision
Talking about BCCI’s stance, Ravi Ashwin said, “Sometimes when an organisation takes a stand, it might not suit everyone, it might not work in favour of everyone, it might be detrimental to a few people. What we must understand here is the message being conveyed by the organisational body here, it said we are prioritising Test cricket, IPL is not everything as far as we are concerned.”
At the same Ashwin also added that it should be player’s choice for which format he prioritizes. Ashwin added, “At the same time, whether a cricketer wants to do all the 12 months, or only want to do the two months or whether they want to be relevant playing T20 cricket and one-day cricket and do not want to be playing Test cricket, is their choice.”
Ravi Ashwin also supported the BCCI’s decision and said that they are making all the right noises. Ashwin said, “They are saying Test cricket is of paramount importance, we are going to promote it and we expect people eligible to play this format. In my view, they are making all the right noises.”
Ravi Ashwin will be next seen playing in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals.
