"He made India realise their mistake in WTC final,": Aakash Chopra after Ravi Ashwin's 5-fer vs West Indies

Ravi Ashwin became the third Indian bowler to complete 700 international wickets.

Former Indian opening batter Aakash Chopra has lauded Ravi Ashwin's effort against West Indies in the first Test at Windsor Park. He also said that with a 5 wicket haul, Ravi Ashwin made India realise the mistake they did in the World Test Championship Final against Australia at The Oval.

Indian team management dropped Ravi Ashwin from the big WTC Final to play with 4 seamers against Australia. India paid a heavy price for playing with just one spinner in the game. Ashwin picked up 5 wickets in the first innings against West Indies and also completed 700 international wickets for India.

Lauding Ashwin's effort Aakash Chopra said, "The entire team was bowled out for 150 after opting to bat. Ashwin picked up a 5-wicket haul. Did we make a mistake in the World Test Championship Final, he made us realise that a little. The sort of pitches we have in Dominica or the West Indies, before the series I had predicted that Ravi Ashwin will be Player of the Series. And he is on track currently".

Ashwin bowled 24.3 overs out of 64.3 in the Windies innings and he was spot on with his line against Windies batters. Ashwin rattled both openers captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul in just a span of two overs.

Aakash Chopra also praised Ravi Ashwin's accuracy in the game and said, "His quality is keep bowling at one spot continuously. This job used to be very easy earlier but people don't do that these days. There are only three or four spinners who are able to pitch the ball at one spot, one is Ashwin, the second is Nathan Lyon, and the third is Ravindra Jadeja and it takes you a little more time to find the fourth".

Ravi Ashwin also became the third Indian bowler to complete 700 international wickets in his career. Ashwin has got 479 test wickets including a 5-wicket haul in Dominica.
