Ravi Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket in December 2024.
Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has slammed a user on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) for spreading fake news in his name about the future of star Indian batting duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The fake tweet was posted on March 7, claiming that Ashwin hinted that Kohli’s time in international cricket might end soon, while Rohit Sharma may play for a couple more years.
Both Rohit and Virat are currently part of India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Virat is also India’s leading run-scorer in the tournament with 217 runs from four innings.
After Steve Smith’s retirement from ODI cricket, discussions about the future of Rohit and Virat had sparked on social media, with many users sharing nostalgic memories of the “FAB Four” from the past decade.

The viral tweet read, “Ravi Ashwin said – As far as I know Rohit is targeting 2027 ODI WC while you may see Virat Kohli hanging up his boots soon because he wants to spend more time with his young family that is what Virat discussed to me few months back.(Via his YT channel)“
Responding to the fake tweet, Ashwin took a jibe at the account owner, praising their storytelling skills in the age of AI.
The off spinner posted, “Heartwarming to see humans still excelling at creative storytelling in this AI era. Nice script but maybe check with me next time before casting me in the lead role?“
Ashwin retired from international cricket on December 18, 2024 after the conclusion of the Brisbane test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. He retired as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in test cricket with 537 scalps.
Rohit and Virat will take field on March 9 in the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in Dubai.
