Virat Kohli scored 74 runs in the Sydney ODI against Australia.
Former Indian Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri shared his take on Virat Kohli’s chances for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. He said that the batter is very fit and if he there is hunger and desire in him, he will carry on till the mega event.
Virat Kohli, who is rated as the greatest ODI batter, has been in the news over his future in the format. Having retired from T20Is and tests, he is just active in one format and there is no clarity if he will be there for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 or not.
The talks related to Virat Kohli’s retirement were very strong ahead of the ODI series against Australia. There was more fuel added to the fire when he bagged two back-to-back ducks in the first two games. However, just like what he has done in his entire career, he yet again proved everyone wrong.
In the final ODI against Australia in Sydney, Virat Kohli oozed his class with the bat and played another magical innings. The premier batter slammed a brilliant half-century and added an unbeaten 168 runs with Rohit Sharma, who hit an unbeaten 121.
The kind of batting that Kohli displayed, was enough to put all the talks to rest. He looked in great shape, which gave a massive hint that he is eager to play ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
He’ll take it one series at a time and then see how he is mentally – Ravi Shastri on Virat Kohli’s chances for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027

Shastri, who has worked with Kohli at close quarters, said that the batter is very fit and he would be looking to take one series at a time. He feels that if there is hunger and desire in him, the right-hander will play the World Cup.
“If that drive is there, he will stay fit, because there’s no question that he’s still very fit. It’s all about form; that is crucial. So, I guess in his case, he’ll take it one series at a time and then see how he is mentally.
“He’ll have no problems physically, but it’s the mental part of it, that hunger and desire. If that is still there, and he’s enjoying it, I think he’ll carry on,” stated Shastri during a conversation on Fox Sports.
Virat Kohli will next play for India when they host South Africa in a multi-format series. The ODI leg during that series will be played from November 30.
