Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, August 27. The 38-year-old revealed his decision through an official post on social media.

Notably, Ashwin retired from international cricket last year in December, finishing as the all-time second highest wicket-taker for India. The right-arm spinner made his debut in IPL in 2009 edition, where he was part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

He represented the Men in Yellow till the 2015 edition and also played a vital role in leading the team to the title in 2010 and 2011 seasons. In IPL 2016, he joined now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant as CSK faced a two-year ban.

From 2018 to 2019, he was part of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and also led the side in both seasons. In 2020, the Delhi Capitals inducted him into their squad. After spending two years with DC, Ashwin represented the Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2022 to 2024.

During the IPL 2025 mega auction, Ashwin was bought by CSK. With an economy of 7.20 across 221 games in his IPL career, Ashwin has been among the most economical bowlers in the tournament. He was also considered a reliable batsman down the order.
