All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja missed the first test against South Africa in Centurion.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the first test due to upper-back spasm, is likely to be fit for the next test against South Africa in Cape Town as reported by news agency PTI. Team India played with a combination of 6 batsmen and five bowlers in the first test in Centurion, where Ravi Ashwin was the lone spin-bowling all-rounder in the XI.

Ravindra Jadeja was spotted taking part in the practice session on the third day of Centurion test. Jadeja was accompanying Indian teammates before the action began on third day of the first test. Team India’s 6-5 combination with 4 seam bowlers didn’t work well in Centurion. South Africa won the match by an innings and 32 runs within just three days.

Jadeja had an extensive practice session

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was spotted doing multiple drills in his comeback in the practice session on 3rd day of the first test. Jadeja ran several short strides of 30-40 meters. He didn’t complain about any pain or discomfort during this drill. He also bowled a few deliveries during the lunch break. Indian team’s health and conditioning coach Rajnikanth watched the all-rounder closely.

Surprisingly Ravindra Jadeja was getting a bit of a turn in his two-stride action in Centurion while in practice along with pacer Mukesh Kumar. Team India needs Ravindra Jadeja the batter more than the left-arm spinner in the second test match at Newlands Cricket Stadium in Cape Town. Jadeja has played just one test match in South Africa in his career.

Ravi Ashwin didn’t contribute much on India’s performance in Centurion. Ashwin scored 8 runs in the first innings, while perished without scoring in the second. He also looked toothless in bowling. Ashwin bowled 19 overs in South African innings but never looked settled in his line. Ashwin picked up one wicket and conceded 41 runs in the entire game.
