Ravindra Jadeja said he wishes to play in ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja admitted that he was not surprised by his snub for the upcoming ODI series against Australia Cricket Team. He also revealed that the management informed him about the decision ahead of the squad selection and it is a good thing that there was a proper communication.

Indian Cricket Team will tour Australia for a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series. The ODI games will be played from October 19 to 25, with the opening encounter scheduled to be played at Perth Cricket Stadium.

The Indian squad for the ODI series by announced recently and one of the big names that was missing was of Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder has been a regular member of the team in the ODIs and played a key role in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph as well. However, he missed out, and in his place spinners in Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav were picked.

The team will be captained by Shubman Gill and this will be his first assignment as ODI captain after taking over the reins of the team from Rohit Sharma.

Speaking during the press conference after day 2 of ongoing second test between India and the West Indies, Jadeja said that he was not surprised by his omission from the Australia series as management had communicated the decision to him in advance. Jadeja also added that he looks forward to playing in ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

“[Selection] is not in my hands. I want to play, for sure”. [At the] end of the day, team management, selectors, coach and captain have their thoughts and they will have their reasons for not selecting me for this series. They have talked to me, it was not a surprise for me after the squad was announced. It is a good thing that they communicated the reason behind my omission. I am happy about that,” he said.

“But whenever I get a chance next, I will try and do what I have done all these years. If I get a chance in the World Cup and there are many ODIs before and if I do well there, it will be a good thing for Indian cricket. Winning a World Cup is everyone’s dream. We had narrowly missed out the last time, the next time we will try and make up for it,” he added.

While announcing the squads for the Australia tour, India chief selector Ajit Agarkar clarified that Jadeja is part of future plans in ODI cricket. Agarkar also noted that he was not picked for the Australia series as there was no need for two left-arm spinners in the squad.

Notably, Jadeja was part of the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team that won ICC Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year. Last year, he announced his retirement from the T20I format after winning ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.

In the ongoing test series against the West Indies, Jadeja was named as vice-captain of the side in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who was ruled out due to a foot injury. In the first test, Jadeja won Player of the Match award for his all-round performance. He slammed a century and picked a four-wicket haul in the clash.
