Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as India’s vice-captain for the test series against the West Indies.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has made a surprising revelation that the team management didn’t inform him before naming him as the vice-captain of the Indian Cricket Team for the ongoing test series against the West Indies Cricket Team. The all-rounder was also honest to admit that he got happy when he was made aware about the development later.

Jadeja was given the role of vice-captain for the tests against the West Indies after Rishabh Pant, who is the regular vice-captain, was ruled out of the series with foot injury, which he sustained during India’s test tour of England. The keeper-batter is undergoing rehabilitation and is expected to be fit by the time South Africa series begins.

In his absence, Dhruv Jurel has taken over the keeping duties for India in the first test, which commenced on Thursday, October 2 at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.

During a conversation with BCCI.TV, Jadeja revealed that the management didn’t inform him in advance about naming him vice-captain for the West Indies series. He said that he came to know about the decision after the squad was announced.

“They didn’t say anything to me. They just announced the team and I saw that besides my name the VC is written, so I was very happy. And as a player, you always gain confidence whenever you see some kind of gesture from the management, captain and coach. At the end of the day, you are always happy to do good and share your experience for the team,” he said.

Jadeja also added that he was happy to get extra responsibility from the management in the series.

“It’s very special for me as a player. They gave me respect because the management, captain, and coach have decided to give me some extra responsibility. I am very happy to do it and whenever the team needed my experience and needed me to say anything regarding planning, I am always happy to do it,” he added.

Notably, Jadeja was appointed as vice-captain in white-ball formats in the past, but this is the first time that he has been handed vice-captaincy in tests. With 85 tests in his kitty, Jadeja is one of the most experienced members of the team.

During India’s test tour of England earlier this year, Jadeja was a stand-out performer with the bat, smacking 516 runs in 10 innings at an average of 86.0 with one century and five half-centuries.
