Delhi Capitals have witnessed a poor campaign in IPL 2026 under Axar Patel’s captaincy.

Under Axar Patel’s captaincy, Delhi Capitals (DC) have observed a dismal performance in the Indian Premier League 2026. Out of 10 games, they have won only four and lost six. With eight points, DC are placed seventh in the points table.

The Capitals started the tournament with two consecutive wins, but their winning streak was later broken. Their batting unit has struggled to showcase effective teamwork, while no bowler has displayed an impeccable performance.

Despite having big international stars like KL Rahul, Tristan Stubbs, Pathum Nissanka, David Miller, Kuldeep Yadav, Lungi Ngidi, and Mitchell Starc, Delhi have thoroughly failed to dominate opposition teams.

3. Poor tactical decisions

Axar has faced criticism for his questionable bowling changes, field placements, and batting combinations in IPL 2026. For instance, several experts questioned his bowling tactics when DC conceded 242 runs in a clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Also, he came under scrutiny after DC failed to defend a mammoth 264-run total against PBKS. His decision to bat first in the previous clash against CSK did not go well with many experts and commentators, as chasing has been the preferred strategy of many teams this season.

2. Decline in his performance

Axar has also failed to perform at his best this season. In 10 games, he took 9 wickets at an economy of 8.25. He has completely flopped with the bat, scoring just 33 runs in 10 games at a poor average of 5.50, and a highest score of 26. He is known for his aggressive batting in the lower middle order, but has struggled in that role this season.

The Capitals have lost 6 of 10 games and have very slim chances to qualify for the playoffs. They can qualify if they win their remaining four matches; however, this looks almost impossible given their current poor form.

Notably, Delhi also failed to book a berth in the playoffs last season, after finishing fifth in the points table. After two flop seasons, shifting the captaincy might be a better choice for the franchise.
