IPL 2026: 3 reasons why KKR must drop Cameron Green from playing XI

Cameron Green has struggled to score runs for KKR in IPL 2026.
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green made headlines after the IPL 2026 mini-auction by emerging as the costliest player. He was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping INR 25.20 crore.
However, Green has struggled to justify his price tag in IPL 2026, failing to make a mark in the initial games. Ajinkya Rahane & Co. have suffered two big defeats at the start, and Green’s poor form is a major worry for them. Below are the three reasons why KKR should drop Cameron Green from their playing XI.
1. Cameron Green’s continuous batting failures
The KKR all-rounder has completely failed to make a mark with the bat. He got out for 18 runs in the opening game against the Mumbai Indians. In the second clash against SRH, he lost his wicket for just 2 runs.
In the previous game against the Punjab Kings, which was washed out due to rain, Green was gone for four runs in the second over itself. Therefore, Green’s poor batting form has become a liability for the team.
2. Green’s inability to lend a hand in bowling

Green is a seam all-rounder but is not bowling for KKR in IPL 2026. Notably, Cricket Australia (CA) has not permitted him to bowl in the early stage of IPL 2026 as he is rehabilitating from a minor lower back injury.
With the ouster of Harshit Rana and Akash Deep due to injuries and Matheesha Pathirana’s absence, KKR’s pace unit has been hampered. In such a scenario, Green’s inability to bowl has added woes to their bowling department.
3. Big overseas members waiting for opportunities
Ajinkya Rahane & Co. have a few well-known overseas players who are waiting for opportunities to play. Tim Seifert and Rachin Ravindra are powerful top-order batters but were benched in the first three games.
Rovman Powell was added to the playing XI in the previous game due to the absence of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. KKR can replace Green with other overseas members in the playing XI, which can strengthen their team in the upcoming games.
What were Cameron Green’s scores in the first three games of IPL 2026?
Green lost his wicket for 18, 2, and 4 in the first three matches.
Who was the costliest player in IPL 2026 mini-auction?
Cameron Green (INR 25.20 crore by KKR) was the costliest player in the auction.
