3 reasons why Suryakumar Yadav's form is concern for India in semi-final of T20 World Cup 2026

Suryakumar Yadav has scored only one half-century in the T20 World Cup 2026 so far.

India are just one step away from becoming the finalists of the T20 World Cup 2026. Suryakumar Yadav & Co. will face England in the semi-final 2 of the tournament. The knockout match will be held on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav started the campaign with a bang, scoring a spectacular 84-run knock against the USA in the opening game. However, he struggled with his batting in the next games and failed to cross the 40-run mark in the other six outings.

At an average of 38.50 and a strike rate of 135+, he has scored 231 runs in seven matches. Although Surya is India’s leading run-scorer in the tournament, these figures are far below his potential. On that note, below are three reasons why Yadav’s form would be a big concern for the team in the semi-final against England.

3. Suryakumar’s poor form is affecting India’s middle-order

Suryakumar Yadav takes the No. 4 batting position for India, which is a very important slot. He is responsible for piling up runs for the team in the middle overs and leading the team towards a big total.

Moreover, top-order batsmen like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson are struggling to give consistent starts.

In such a scenario, the middle-order batsmen, especially Surya, will have to pull up their socks. The middle order has been affected because Surya failed to score runs consistently.

2. Pressure comes on the lower-order batsmen

Batting at No. 4, Surya is responsible for keeping the scoreboard running in the middle overs. The responsibility of the middle-order batters is to capture maximum runs after the Power Play and lead the scoreboard to a respectable total ahead of the death overs.

It helps the lower-order batters to score freely and take risks in the final overs. However, if the middle-order fails to perform their job properly, the pressure falls on the lower-order batsmen.

1. India have scored runs at a slow pace in the middle-overs

Notably, India have struggled to score runs at a high strike rate in the middle overs in the T20 World Cup 2026. This is why India have crossed the 200 mark only twice. Tilak Varma’s woes with the bat at No. 3 forced the management to shuffle his position and add Sanju Samson as an opener.

Suryakumar is known for his brilliance with the spin, and he needs to rescue the team from their inefficiency in the middle-overs against England in the semi-final.
