Jammu & Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi played a big hand in his state’s maiden Ranji Trophy title win, getting over the 8-time champions Karnataka in the final. The final was played at the KSCA Ground in Hubli, and J&K were named champions based on their first innings lead.

Batting first, Jammu & Kashmir scored a mammoth 584 with contributions from top-order batter Shubham Pundir (121) and captain Paras Dogra’s 70. As many as five batters scored over fifty, with Pundir scoring a match-winning century.

It was then Auqib Nabi with the ball for Jammu & Kashmir. He took five wickets for 54 runs with the ball as Karnataka was bowled out for 293 in their first innings. In total, he took 60 wickets from 10 matches in the domestic tournament.

The right-arm pacer led the attack and became an inspirational figure, taking his team to their maiden Ranji Trophy title win. Before the five-wicket haul against Karnataka in the final, Nabi took 12 wickets in the quarter-final against Madhya Pradesh and nine in the semi-final against Bengal.

Nabi, who the Delhi Capitals bought in the IPL 2026 auction for 8.4 crores, achieved a few huge milestones as he helped his stateside make a mark on the map of Indian domestic cricket. Let’s take a look at five milestones achieved by Auqib Nabi in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season.

5. Third pacer with the most wickets in a single Ranji Trophy season

With 60 wickets in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy season, Auqib became the third pacer with the most wickets in a single Ranji season. Jaydev Unadkar leads the list with 67 wickets in the 2018-19 season, followed by Doddda Ganesh, who picked up 62 wickets in the 1998-99 season, followed by Nabi.

Overall, the J&K pacer is the seventh pacer in the list of bowlers with the most wickets in a single Ranji Trophy season.

4. Second-most fifers across two seasons

Jammu & Kashmir’s Nabi took 13 five-wicket hauls across the last two Ranji trophy seasons in 2024-25 and 2025-26. He is now second on the list of bowlers with the most fifers in the last two seasons. Bihar bowling all-rounder Asutosh Aman took 14 five-wicket hauls across two Ranji seasons in 2018-19 and 2019-20.

3. 100-plus wickets across two Ranji Trophy seasons

After his tally of 60 wickets in the recently concluded Ranji season, Auqib Nabi has become the fifth bowler to take 100 wickets across two Ranji Trophy seasons.

So far, he has taken 104 wickets in 18 matches at an average of 13.14, including 13 five-wicket hauls. Bihar’s Asutosh Aman leads the list with 117 wickets. He is followed by Kanwaljit Singh, who played for Hyderabad and Tamil Nadu with 113 wickets (1998-99 and 1999).

Jharkhand’s Shahbaz Nadeem took 107 wickets (2015-16 and 2016-17), and Saurashtra’s Jaydev Unadkat, with 106 wickets (2018-19 and 2019-20), has taken more than 100 wickets as well. Gujarat’s Ishwar Choudhary is below Nabi with exactly 100 wickets across two seasons in 2018-19 and 2019-20.

2. Joint most fifers by a pacer in a single Ranji Trophy season

As said above, Nabi finished with seven fifers in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. He took a fifer in the final against Karnataka as well, and led his team to victory. He has thus equaled the tally for the most fifers among pacers in this domestic tournament.

The likes of Jaydev Unadkat (2019-20), Aniket Choudhary (2018-19), and Lakshmipathy Balaji (2002-03) all took seven fifers at some point in their domestic red-ball careers.

Bihar’s Ashutosh Aman leads the list with nine fifers in the 2018-19 season, and former spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi took 8 in the 1974-75 season.

1. First bowler from J&K to take 50-plus wickets in a Ranji Trophy season

After his tally of 60 wickets in the recent season, Nabi became the first bowler from Jammu & Kashmir to take more than 50 wickets in a single Ranji Trophy season. He took 60 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 12.57, including two four-wicket hauls and seven fifers.

He bettered his own tally of 44 wickets that he took in the 2024-25 Ranji season. Overall, Nabi has incredible numbers in domestic red-ball cricket, having taken 156 wickets from 41 first-class matches, including 16 fifers and four 10-wicket hauls.
