Rohit Sharma scored 131 against Afghanistan in 9th match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma played a magnificent knock against Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Rohit was on a record-breaking run with his magnificent century. Indian captain was at his best in power-hitting and gave no chance to Afghanistan bowlers. From centuries to runs to sixes, Rohit has shattered most of the batting records with his match-winning knock.

Rohit scored 131 runs on 84 balls with 16 fours and 5 sixes. India defeated Afghanistan by a huge margin of eight wickets to remain unbeaten in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Along with Rohit, Virat Kohli (55*) and Ishan Kishan (47) also contributed to India’s magnificent victory.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma smashed the quickest century for India in the World Cup. He completed his century with just 63 balls. Rohit broke the long-standing record of Kapil Dev, who smashed the earlier fastest in 72 balls against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup. Kapil scored 175 runs in that game.

Rohit Sharma has a stellar World Cup record. He completed his 1000 World Cup runs as well against Afghanistan. Rohit became the joint-fastest to touch this milestone, along with Australia opener David Warner. Warner and Rohit completed their 1000 World Cup runs in just 19 innings.

3. Fastest Indian batsman to score 1000 runs in ICC Cricket World Cup (19 innings) :

Along with being the joint-fastest overall, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has become the fastest Indian to complete 1000 World Cup runs. Rohit Sharma overtook legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, who completed his 1000 World Cup runs milestone in 20 innings, Rohit did so in 19 innings.

Rohit Sharma smashed five sixes in his 131-run knock against Afghanistan. Rohit needed three sixes to break Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes in international cricket. With his power-packed punches against Afghanistan in Delhi, Rohit became the leading batter with the most number of sixes in international cricket. Rohit Sharma now has 556 sixes in international cricket.

5. Batsman with most centuries in ICC Cricket World Cup (7) :

Indian captain has broke one more batting record for Sachin Tendulkar. This was Rohit’s seventh World Cup century. He overtook the batting legend and became the leading batter overall to score the most centuries in World Cup cricket. Sachin Tendulkar had six World Cup centuries under his name.

In another record-breaking moment, Indian captain overtook former Australia captain and legend Ricky Ponting. He overtook Ponting’s 30 ODI centuries record to become the 3rd leading batter with the most number of centuries in ODI format. Now only Sachin Tendulkar (49) and Virat Kohli (47) are ahead of him.

Rohit Sharma is 2nd in the elite list of openers with the most number of ODI centuries. Rohit went past former Sri Lankan opening batter Sanath Jayasuriya. Rohit now has 29 out of his 31 ODI centuries as an opener, while Sanath Jayasuriya scored 28 centuries as an opener. Sachin Tendulkar is leading the chart with 45 centuries.

8. 3rd Indian captain to score a World Cup century :

Rohit Sharma is now the third Indian captain to score a century in a World Cup tournament. Rohit has joined two of the greatest players India have ever had, Kapil Dev and Sourav Ganguly. After Kapil’s 1983 century against Zimbabwe, both Sourav Ganguly (vs Kenya in 2003) and Rohit Sharma (vs Afghanistan in 2023) scored centuries in 20 years gap.

9. Most Centuries in winnings cause by an opener across all formats (33) :

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has now become the leading opening batter across formats to smash the most number of centuries in winning cause. Rohit now has 33 international hundreds as an opener that ended up in a winning cause. Australia’s David Warner is second on this list with 32 centuries.
