Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten century against Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in their second group-stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Being asked to bowl first, Kuldeep Yadav starred for the Men in Blue, helping India restrict Pakistan to a below-par total of 241 runs. Saud Shakeel top-scored for Pakistan with 62 off 76 balls, while Mohammad Rizwan managed 46 off 77 balls.
In reply, Virat Kohli led India’s chase with an unbeaten 100 off 111 balls, including seven fours. He added 69 runs with Shubman Gill before stitching a match-winning 114-run stand with Shreyas Iyer to seal the game for India.
On that note, let’s take a look at three records that Virat achieved on this historic day.
Top three records which Virat Kohli achieved in IND vs PAK ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash:
1. Overtook Mohammad Azharuddin’s record for most ODI catches by an Indian fielder
During Pakistan’s innings, Virat Kohli surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin to take the most catches by an Indian fielder (non wicket-keeper) in ODI cricket.
Since making his debut in 2008, Kohli has taken 158 catches in ODIs for India, going past Azharuddin’s record of 156 catches.
2. Fastest to 14000 runs in ODI cricket
Kohli crossed the 14,000-run mark in ODIs on his way to the century. He became the third batsman after Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234) to achieve this milestone.
Notably, he also became the fastest to reach the milestone, achieving it in 287 innings – 63 innings fewer than Sachin Tendulkar (350) and 91 fewer than Kumar Sangakkara (378).
3. First batsman to score 51 tons in ODI cricket
Virat’s match-winning century in Dubai makes him the first batsman to score 51 tons in ODI cricket. He had broken Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI hundreds during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand.
He also has the second-most international centuries in world cricket (82), which is 18 fewer than Sachin’s tally of 100 centuries.
