Videos of Rinku Singh asking for bats from Virat Kohli went viral during IPL 2024.
Indian batter Rinku Singh has opened up about the viral videos of him chasing Virat Kohli for bats during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Rinku also admitted that he was getting defamed over the viral videos.
Notably, Kohli gifted a bat to Rinku after a clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during IPL 2024. However, he broke that bat and was seen asking Kohli for another bat.
The video of the moment went viral on social media, with many trolling Rinku for his gestures. However, in 2025, the KKR batter didn’t ask for any bats, potentially to keep himself away from the limelight.

During a conversation on News24, Rinku admitted that he got defamed for chasing Kohli for bats, as the videos were not being perceived in a good manner.
“Main thoda zyada badnaam ho gaya tha bat ke chakkar mai (I became infamous because of the bat). I used to meet him (Kohli) normally and then asked for a bat. The cameraman would follow me. It wasn’t being perceived well. It wasn’t good for me and bhaiya (Kohli) too as videos of bat were going viral,” he said.
Rinku also revealed that he did not chase Kohli for bats in IPL 2025; however, he received bats from MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.
“I wasn’t seen with Virat bhai this time (IPL 2025). I did get Mahi bhai’s bat and Rohit bhai’s bat. It’s a big deal for me getting the bats from such players. I have given a lot of bats myself. I do give bats to those who need them but those who have contracts, I don’t,” he added.
Notably, Rinku’s team, KKR, won the trophy in IPL 2024. The left-handed batsman played a decent role for his side, scoring 168 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 148.37. In IPL 2025, he piled up 206 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 153.73.
Meanwhile, Rinku is part of the Indian squad for Asia Cup 2025, which will commence on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is currently busy in the UP T20 League 2025, where he is the captain of Meerut Marvericks.
