India's tour of Australia 2025
Rinku Singh reveals how MS Dhoni's tips helped him finish off in style against Australia in 1st T20I

Rinku Singh made 22* in 14 balls to help India chase 208 runs in the first T20I against Australia.
Rinku Singh, the new finishing sensation of Indian team, credited MS Dhoni for advising him on how to be good in death overs while finishing the games. This came after he made 22* to help India win the first T20I of the five-match series against Australia on November 23, 2023.
Australia had batted first after Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to field. Thanks to Josh Inglis’ amazing 110 and Steve Smith’s half-century, Australia posted 208/3 in 20 overs.
Asked to chase their highest ever target in T20Is, India answered the challenge in style, as Suryakumar Yadav led from the front. He scored 80 and added 100 plus runs with Ishan Kishan, who made 58. Rinku Singh finished the match with 22* in 14 balls as India won by 2 wickets and went 1-0 up in the 5-T20I series.
While Suryakumar Yadav was named player of the match, Rinku was hailed for his ice-cold temperament in the death as wickets fell around him, but he continued on towards his goal of winning the match for India.
Rinku Singh reveals MS Dhoni’s advice to him
Team India's young batsman, Rinku Singh, gave victory to the team by hitting a big shot on the last ball of the over. Although the team got the winning run through a no ball before his shot, Rinku is being praised for the way he finished the match.
BCCI shared a video of Rinku Singh, in which Rinku was asked, where did you learn the way to took the game till the last over?
“it's pretty good. I win the match. When I went to bat, I had the perfect situation that I was doing. I was feeling good playing with Surya bhai. I wanted something 40 -40 runs 4 times. So I was thinking of doing what I did before. And I can work as much as I can,” Rinku said.
He further revealed that when he met MS Dhoni and asked him about finishing matches, the great one told him to remain calm and take the game as deep as possible.
“When I met Mahi Bhai, it was he who told me that the calmer you play in the death overs and the more you look towards hitting in front, the more benefit you will get. t I follow what Mahi Bhai said, I try to take the game till the last over and remain calm. That's where it benefits me,” he added.
