Rinku Singh made his ODI debut for India in the 2nd ODI vs South Africa in Gqeberha.

In the 2nd ODI between South Africa and India, Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa, won the toss and elected to bowl first at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. In the first game of the three-match ODI series, India won the match by 8 wickets and came into the second game with a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing three-match series.

During the toss, India captain KL Rahul disclosed a change in the line-up, stating, “There’s one change – Shreyas has gone back to join the Test team, and Rinku makes his debut.” The decision to include Rinku Singh in the playing XI for the second One Day International (ODI) against South Africa was prompted by the release of Shreyas Iyer from the ODI squad to join the test team.

Rinku Singh’s eagerly awaited ODI debut became a historic moment as he received the cap before the face-off with South Africa. This event marked the culmination of Rinku’s patient journey, having consistently leaving a significant impact since his debut in Indian T20I side. Following his stellar show in the shortest format, notably in the home series against Australia and South Africa, Rinku’s career has witnessed a remarkable ascent since his standout performances in IPL 2023.

In a symbolic and honourable gesture, spinner Kuldeep Yadav had the privilege of presenting Rinku Singh with his ODI cap. This act marked the commencement of a new chapter in Rinku’s cricketing journey, symbolizing recognition and acceptance into the elite ranks of ODI cricket.

Notably, Rinku Singh is 254th player to represent India in One-day Internationals (ODI).

While Rinku Singh missed the opportunity to participate in the first ODI at Johannesburg due to strategic considerations in team selection, the second ODI provided the ideal stage for him to make his mark in ODIs for India. The decision to feature Rinku Singh underscored the balance he could bring to the team, particularly considering his power-hitting capabilities.
