Rinku Singh said getting picked in Asia Cup 2025 boosted his confidence.
Indian batter Rinku Singh admitted that he didn’t expect himself to be picked in India‘s squad for Asia Cup 2025. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav announced the team for the tournament on August 19 through a press conference in Mumbai.
Rinku Singh was among the 15 players who made the cut to the squad for Asia Cup 2025. The left-hander has been one of the consistent performers for India in T20Is, scoring 546 runs in 24 innings at a strike rate of 161.07, including three half-centuries.
The left-handed batsman is currently busy in the UP T20 League 2025, where he is the captain of Meerut Mavericks. Recently, he slammed a century in the tournament to register his first ton in T20 cricket.
I got motivated after I saw my name on the Asia Cup list – Rinku Singh
During a chat with RevSportz on the sidelines of the UP T20 League 2025, Rinku said that he felt he would be left out of this year’s Asia Cup squad due to his poor form last year. However, his selection boosted his confidence.
“I got motivated after I saw my name on the Asia Cup list. I did not do well last year, and I felt that it was possible that I would get left out. But the selectors showed trust in me and selected me and that gave me a confidence boost,” he said.
“The innings that I played in the UP T20 League has boosted my confidence and I would take it there. Bowling is very important today. The selectors want you to have multiple roles in the team. If you cannot affect the game by bat, do it with the ball,” he added.
Rinku also noted that he dislikes batting at No. 7 or No. 8 positions; however, he can bat anywhere according to the team’s needs.
“I batted at No. 5 in 2023. I do not feel good when I bat at No. 7 and No. 8. But it is the team’s need, so you have to perform in that role. I have played 33 T20I matches for the Indian team and I have scored 3 fifties. I can bat everywhere, not just in the finisher’s role,” he added.
Meanwhile, Asia Cup 2025 will commence on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India will play their first match on September 10 against the UAE in Dubai. With Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, the Men in Blue are placed in Group A.
