Good News for India; Rinku Singh to rejoin squad ahead of IND vs ZIM clash in T20 World Cup 2026

Rinku Singh left India’s squad due to a family emergency.
India are pulling their socks up for the upcoming clash against Zimbabwe in the Super 8 Round of the T20 World Cup 2026. The IND vs ZIM clash will take place on February 26 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Suryakumar Yadav & Co. have been training at the stadium for the last few days. On Tuesday, Batter Rinku Singh did not participate in the training session as he left the team and returned home due to a family emergency. He went home to see his ailing father.
India have to win their next game against Zimbabwe at any cost to remain alive in the T20 World Cup. Following their defeat in the previous game against South Africa, they need to win their next two matches to be able to finish in the top two spots in the Group 1 points table. One more defeat will diminish their chances of reaching the semi-finals.
Rinku to re-join the India squad on February 25
Rinku will rejoin India‘s squad on the evening of February 25 (Wednesday). The development was confirmed by India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.
“Rinku’s father is not well, he took a break, and we hope he will join the team by this evening,” Kotak said at the India vs Zimbabwe pre-match press conference.
Meanwhile, despite his return, Rinku might be dropped from the upcoming game against Zimbabwe amid his batting woes in the tournament.
The left-handed batter has struggled to score runs since the start. In the first two games against the USA and Namibia, he lost his wicket for 6 and 1. Later, he hit unbeaten 11* and 6* against Pakistan and the Netherlands.
He grabbed a duck in the previous clash against South Africa. Across five games, he has scored just 24 runs off 29 deliveries at a poor strike rate of 82.75. Therefore, his inclusion in the next game against Zimbabwe is highly doubtful.
