“Sahi batting kar raha hai..”- Rinku Singh reveals valuable advice by MS Dhoni

Rinku Singh ended up as Kolkata Knight Riders' highest run-scorer of the IPL 2023 with 474 runs in 14 matches.

Rinku Singh, who got his maiden call-up to the Indian team for the upcoming Asian Games 2023, revealed valuable advice from legend MS Dhoni during the IPL 2023 season, which helped him immensely.

The BCCI announced a second-string, younger team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad for the continental Asian Games competition at the time when the main team will be preparing for the home ODI World Cup.

With his outstanding performance with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2023 Indian Premier League, Rinku shot to fame. The left-handed hitter hit five sixes off the final five deliveries against Yash Dayal during the group stage match against Gujarat Titans, which the Knight Riders needed to win by 28 runs.

During the IPL 2023, Rinku also met with MS Dhoni and revealed some sage advice he got from the Chennai Super Kings captain. Speaking on his interaction with the former India captain, Rinku revealed a worldly piece of advice that Dhoni gave him following the exploits for KKR.

"The chatter with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) was really productive. He has also batted in similar numbers as I do – at 5 or 6 – and he has done it for the majority of his career and knows the position in and out. I simply asked him how to better my game, and his advice was very simple: “Bohot sahi batting kar raha hai, jo tu kar raha hai, wahi karta reh (You are batting really well. Continue whatever you have done so far),” said Rinku to Revsportz.

Rinku finished IPL 2023 with 474 runs to his name with a strike rate close to 150.

Everyone dreams to play for India, wear that jersey: Rinku Singh on his selection in the Indian team

Rinku was expected to be called up for the T20I series against the West Indies next month, but the BCCI chose to call up the Uttar Pradesh batsman for the Asian Games instead. In response to finally getting selected for the India team, Rinku said he began playing cricket with the intention of "representing the country."

“Everyone dreams to play for India, wear that jersey. I don’t think a lot about the future because the more you think, the more burden you put yourself under. I take life one day at a time. But yes, whoever takes up professional sports wants to represent their country one day or the other,” Rinku added.

“I know for a fact that my family, my parents will be happier than me to see me wear the Indian jersey. They have been waiting for this for years now. They have seen my struggle, they have helped me, been with me through all my ups and downs. The day I don the jersey will be a day dedicated to them,” he added.

The Asian Games open on September 23 with the cricket event starting a day later.
