In what has been the saddest start to the day, Indian Cricket Team batter Rinku Singh’s father passed away on Friday morning. Khanchand Singh was battling with liver cancer and was undergoing treatment at the Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida.
Rinku Singh’s father health deteriorated over the last few days and this even made Rinku leave the India team amid the T20 World Cup 2026 and go home. As the team landed in Chennai for South Africa clash, the batter went back home and missed the training session as well.
However, ahead of the game, he was back and was seen sitting in the Indian team’s dugout during the South Africa clash. He didn’t get to play the match as management preferred Sanju Samson over him in order to negate the threat of off-spinners at the top.
Rinku Singh leaves for home after father’s death

The reports in Hindustan Times claimed that Rinku has flown back to his home to be with his family at this difficult time. But, the batter is expected to join the team for the clash against the West Indies.
Rinku’s father was one of the major reasons behind the success of the cricketer. He used to work as an LPG Cylinder deliveryman in Aligarh but made sure that his son got all he needed to become a cricketer.
Coming to Rinku’s performances in the T20 World Cup 2026, the left-hander hasn’t been able to make a mark. In the five games that he has played, he has scored only 24 runs with his scores reading 6, 1, 11*, 6* and a duck.
With Samson finding success at the top, it is unlikely that Rinku will make the cut into the XI for the next game against the West Indies. It will be a do-or-die clash for India as a win will take them to the semi-final.
