Ferdinand and Gill were seen watching football.
Football legend Rio Ferdinand recently met star Indian cricketer Shubman Gill in Paris. Both were seen watching the Premier League showdown between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
After that, the former England football player also shared a heartfelt note for the Indian captain on his Instagram post.
Gill is currently off the field as he is not part of the Indian squad in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Last year, he returned to the shortest format after being appointed as vice-captain ahead of Asia Cup. He also played in the tournament as an opener and in the subsequent series against Australia and South Africa.
However, due to his poor form in the T20I format, he was snubbed from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad. Axar Patel replaced him as the new vice-captain. Gill last played in the ODI series against New Zealand in January, where India suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat.
Rio Ferdinand heaps praise on Shubman Gill in an Instagram post

Ferdinand recently met Shubman Gill and was impressed by the Indian captain. He also shared a photo of himself with Gill on his Instagram account. He wrote a heartfelt message for the 26-year-old player. He said that it was refreshing to meet the Indian cricketer.
“I meet a lot of sports stars on my travels but not many have shown me their curious mind, so quickly quite like Shubman. After sitting down and ordering our soft drinks I sensed curiosity through detailed questions about my football journey as a player, about leadership & relationships….all stemming from a huge desire (I felt) for Shubman to draw parallels where he could to apply to his world of cricket,” he wrote along with the post.
“Now who knows what he takes from what I said or if anything I said resonates BUT my point is for someone so young to quickly set about probing, questioning, exploring different things with the only aim being – to better himself,” he added.
