Rishabh Pant scored his eighth test ton in the second innings of the first test at Headingley in Leeds.
Indian Cricket Team keeper-batter Rishabh Pant scripted history in the first test of the five-match series against the England Cricket Team at Headingley, Leeds as he slammed centuries in both innings. His hundreds helped India get into the driver’s seat.
Rishabh Pant, who had a miserable form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 until the last game, where he slammed a century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has carried on his form and registered two incredible knocks.
He scored 134 runs off 178 balls in the first innings and followed it up with 118 runs off 140 balls in the second. His incredible performance has helped him achieve multiple records. Below, we will talk about the list of records Rishabh Pant achieved with his twin centuries in Leeds.
List of records achieved by Rishabh Pant in first test of India’s tour of England 2025
1. Overtook MS Dhoni’s tally to become Asian wicket-keeper batter with most runs in SENA countries
Rishabh Pant’s twin centuries have helped him go past MS Dhoni for most runs in SENA countries by an Asian wicket-keeper batter. Pant scored 252 runs in the ongoing game, which helped him to take his run tally to 1933 runs in 27 games, going past Dhoni’s tally of 1731 runs in 32 matches. Pant is still pretty young and has a long career ahead to add more.
2. Overtook MS Dhoni to become Indian wicket-keeper batter with most test tons
MS Dhoni was one of the best Indian wicket-keeper batters in test cricket, but Pant has already established himself as a match-winner in this format of the game. Pant’s ability to change the game’s situation makes him very dangerous.
With his ton in the first innings, Pant broke MS Dhoni’s record for most test hundreds by an Indian wicket-keeper batter and now with another ton in the second innings, he extended his lead to eight hundreds as compared to six for MS Dhoni.
3. Overtook Rohit Sharma’s tally for most sixes by an Indian batter in ICC WTC history
There are not many who can match the six-hitting ability of Rohit Sharma in the game. However, Pant has now overtaken him for most sixes in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) by an Indian batter. Pant hit nine sixes in the game, six in the first innings and three in the second. He now has 65 sixes in the ICC WTC history, which is the second-highest after England’s test captain Ben Stokes (83).
4. Overtook MS Dhoni and became India’s third-highest six hitter in test cricket
Rishabh Pant’s nine sixes in the game also helped him achieve another milestone. After going past a couple of Dhoni’s feats, he surpassed him for most test sixes as well. Pant has now hit 82 sixes in 44 games, going past Dhoni’s 78 sixes. Interestingly, Dhoni played 90 games in his career. Only Virender Sehwag (90) and Rohit Sharma (88) are ahead of Pant for most test sixes by an Indian batter.
5. Seventh Indian batter to hit twin-centuries in test cricket
It was a memorable performance by India’s new vice-captain in the first ENG vs IND test as he joined an elite list of Indian batters. Pant, with his twin centuries in the game, became seventh Indian batter to achieve the feat in test cricket.
He joined the likes of Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar (thrice), Rahul Dravid (twice), Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma in the elite list of Indian batters with twin-centuries in test cricket.
6. First ever Indian wicket-keeper batter to hit twin-centuries in test cricket
Rishabh Pant is now the seventh Indian batter with twin centuries in test cricket, but he became the first Indian wicket-keeper batter to achieve this rare feat. He scored 134 and 118 runs in the game.
Notably, Andy Flower is the only other wicket-keeper batter to achieve this feat in test cricket.
7. First ever Indian batter to hit twin-centuries in tests in England
Rishabh Pant has certainly set the tone for the long test series in England. India need him in good form, especially after the test retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. And he responded pretty well with twin hundreds. He became the first Indian batter to register twin-centuries in a test match in England.
8. Became the second Indian wicket-keeper batter to score over 3000 test runs
Before the Leeds test, Pant had 2948 runs in 27 tests. During his century in the first innings, he completed 3000 runs in test cricket. He became the 26th Indian to reach this landmark. However, he became only the second Indian wicket-keeper after MS Dhoni (4876 runs in 90 tests) to score 3000 or more test runs.
