Rishabh Pant agrees to play the opening match of Delhi Premier League T20 - Reports

Rishabh Pant will play for Purani Dilli-6 in the inaugural edition of the DPL T20 tournament.
Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is all set to play in the opening match of the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL). The first season of the DPL will get underway on August 17 and conclude on September 8.
The much-awaited tournament in Delhi will see plenty of Team India and Indian Premier League stars take part in it, one of them is Pant.
The first edition of the DPL 2024 will see a total of 40 matches—33 men’s games and seven women’s matches. The winner of the DPL 2024 will get prize money of 1 crore. During the grand launch event of the DPL 2024, the Delhi and District Cricket Association announced former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag as the brand ambassador of the inaugural edition.
Rishabh has agreed to play the first match of the DPL
According to a report in Times of India, the 26-year-old Pant, who was signed by Purani Dilli-6, has confirmed his participation in the tournament’s opening fixture against South Delhi Superstarz. The match is scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
“Rishabh has agreed to play the first match of the DPLT20 as he wanted to be a part of this initiative that is likely to provide a great platform for youngsters in Delhi. He acknowledges the role played by Delhi cricket in his career. However, it’s important for him to take care of himself, given that there is a long Test season coming,” a source close to Pant told TOI.
After playing the first game of the DPL, Pant will kick off his preparations for the Duleep Trophy, which will start on September 5 and will mark his return to red-ball cricket. He will push for a case to be selected in India’s test squad to face Bangladesh.
“Being in prime shape to represent the country is his utmost priority. He will get back to red-ball training after the first match of the DPL and start preparing for the long-format season, starting with the Duleep Trophy in the first week of September. DDCA and the Purani Delhi 6 management appreciate Rishabh’s gesture and also respect his commitments,” the source added
