Rishabh Pant slammed two centuries in the first test at Headingley, Leeds.
The India Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team are gearing up for the second test of the five-match series, scheduled to commence from July 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The hosts lead the series 1-0 following their five-wicket win at Headingley in Leeds.
In the second test, Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant eyes to surpass Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar’s record at the Edgbaston Cricket Stadium. Pant needs just 28 more runs to become the Indian batsman with the most runs at the venue in tests.
As of now, Kohli has mustered 231 runs at Edgbaston across four innings in two tests, with one century and one half-century. Kohli slammed a 149-run knock at the stadium during India’s tour of England in 2018. Batting legend Gavaskar follows Kohli in the second spot, with 216 runs in six innings. The former India opener accounts for three half-centuries at the stadium.
Pant has played only one test at Edgbaston so far, in which he slammed a century and a half-century. The left-handed batsman has scored 203 runs at this venue and is on the verge of surpassing Kohli and Gavaskar for most runs at Edgbaston.
Rishabh Pant slammed twin centuries in the opening test against England
Notably, Pant delivered a wonderful batting performance in the first test at Headingley, Leeds. The India vice-captain slammed centuries in both innings, becoming the first India batter to smack twin centuries in a test match in England. Reaching his eighth test ton in the encounter, Pant also surpassed MS Dhoni to become the Indian wicket-keeper with the most centuries in tests.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill & Co. have a big challenge against England in the next game as their record at Edgbaston is very poor. In the past, India have never won a test match in Birmingham. Out of eight matches at the venue, England have won seven games and one ended in a draw.
