Rishabh Pant had made his IPL debut in 2016 as a teenager for Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals).
Rishabh Pant bid an emotional farewell to Delhi Capitals (DC) fans after he was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, that was held in Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25, 2024.
Pant, who had made his IPL debut in IPL 2016 for Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals), was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Rishabh Pant’s name led to a huge bidding war amongst multiple franchises with RCB, PBKS, LSG, and DC vying for the services of the keeper-batter. In the end, Lucknow Super Giants made the final bid of INR 27 Cr when DC decided to use their RTM card.
This winning bid of INR 27 Cr by LSG, made Rishabh Pant the most expensive buy ever in IPL auction history, surpassing Shreyas Iyer’s INR 26.75 Cr buy to PBKS just a few minutes before at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
He will now be in contention for captaincy at the Lucknow Super Giants franchise who also have Nicholas Pooran in their ranks.
Rishabh Pant says his goodbyes to the DC fan base, and thanks them for being his family for nine years
Rishabh Pant has been with DC for 9 years, since making his IPL debut in 2016. He appeared in 111 matches and scored 3284 runs at a strike rate of 148.39, with the highest score of 128*. He hit 154 sixes and 396 fours. He’s also taken 75 catches and 23 stumpings.
“Goodbyes are never easy. The journey with Delhi Capitals has been nothing short of amazing. From the thrills on the field to the moments off it, I’ve grown in ways I never imagined. I came here as a teenager and we grew together over the last nine years.
What made this journey all worthwhile is you, the fans. You’ve embraced me, cheered for me and stood by me in one of the toughest phases of my life. As I move on, I carry your love and support in my heart. I’ll look forward to entertain you whenever I take the field. Thank you for being my family and making this journey so special,” he further added.
Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal also took to X and gave an emotional message to Rishabh Pant. He referred to Pant as his younger brother and claimed that he would always remain a part of his family.
“To Rishabh Pant, you are and will always remain my younger brother – from the bottom of my heart I love you and I have tried everything to make sure you are happy and have treated you like my family. I am very sad to see you go and I am very emotional about it. You will always be in DC and I hope one day we can reunite. Thank you for everything Rishabh and remember that we will always love you – go well champ, the world is at your feet. Best wishes from all of us at Delhi Capitals – other than when you play DC I will be cheering and hoping for the best for you!” Parth Jindal wrote on X.
