Rishabh Pant is captaining India in the second test against South Africa in Guwahati.

The second test between Indian Cricket Team and South Africa Cricket Team got underway at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday, November 22. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first in the clash.

India missed the services of captain Shubman Gill in the encounter as he was ruled out due to a neck injury. Vice-captain and wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant got the opportunity to leading the team in his absence, becoming the second wicket-keeper batter after MS Dhoni to captain India in tests.

After opting to bat first, South African openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton built an opening stand of 82 runs for the first wicket. However, both of them lost their wickets in quick succession, with Proteas railing at 82/2 in the 28th over. As a result, two new batters Tristan Stubbs and Bavuma were at the crease soon.

The duo etched a stand of 84 runs for the third wicket, driving the scoreboard to 166/3. Bavuma, who scored an unbeaten half-century in the first test, was looking good with the bat once again. However, Pant came up with a brilliant tactic to dismiss him.

He urged his teammates to allow Bavuma to hit lofted shots, which would give them a chance to dismiss him through a catch. As planned, the Proteas captain did lose his wicket through a catch in Ravindra Jadeja’s 58th over.

Jadeja bowled a tossed-up delivery to Bavuma as he took an aerial route and played a lofted shot towards deep mid-off. Yashasvi Jaiswal executed a stunning drive to complete the catch as India managed to break a crucial partnership. The video of Pant’s trick to get the better of Bavuma went viral on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
