Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill hammered centuries in the first innings of the Headingley test.

The India Cricket Team and clashing with the England Cricket Team in the first test of the five-match series at Headingley, Leeds. England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. However, bowlers failed to attack the Indian batting line-up with the new ball and in the middle phase.

The Shubman Gill-led side posted a gigantic total of 471/10 in the first innings to put the visitors on the back foot. Three Indian batters scored centuries in the first innings of the encounter. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed 101 runs off 159 deliveries to set the platform for India’s batting dominance.

Later, Gill also slammed 147 runs to become the fifth Indian captain to hammer a century on test captaincy debut. The Indian skipper also slammed his highest-ever knock in the test. On Day two, Rishabh Pant slammed 134 runs to register his seventh test century.

At the start of Day two on Saturday (June 21), Gill and Pant took the crease to resume India’s batting. Both of them stitched a crucial partnership of 209 runs for the fourth wicket, taking the scoreboard from 221/3 at one stage to 430/4 before Gill lost his wicket.

Other than their partnership, their hilarious chatters during the match caught the attention of many viewers. For instance, after ducking against one of the bouncers by Brydon Carse, Pant was caught as saying by the stump mic, “Bada ball daal diya yaar, respect karna pad gaya bahut tagda [He bowled a big bouncer, had to respect him]”.

In another instance, Gill was heard urging Pant to give him the strike. A few such small talks between both batters became hilarious moments during their batting. Have a look at the video below.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue were the most successful bowlers for England in the first innings, picking four wickets each. Later, during India’s bowling, pacer Jasprit Bumrah gave the first breakthrough by dismissing opener Zak Crawley for just four runs in the first over.

However, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope etched a 100-run stand for the second wicket. With their knocks, the visitors reached 107/1 at the end of the second session on Day 2.
