Rishabh Pant will be a crucial member for India in the test series against England.

Indian Cricket Team vice-captain Rishabh Pant has revealed the middle order of the team for the first test against the England Cricket Team. He confirmed that skipper Shubman Gill will be batting at four, and he will be taking the number five spot in the XI.

The ENG vs IND test series is around the corner. The opening game between the teams is all set to begin from 20th June at Headingley in Leeds. It will also be the first series for both teams in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.

Coming to the Indian team, they have been in England for around two weeks now and have been putting in the hard yards. While the preparations are underway, there has been a lot of chatter about what XI India will field, especially with young guns in the team.

In particular, talks about who will bat at four have hogged the headlines. This is because Virat Kohli, who retired recently, used to bat there. He did the bulk of the scoring at that position, and hence, all eyes are locked on number four, which will be a crucial position in the series against England.

Shubman will go in at No 4 and I will bat at 5 – Rishabh Pant

With the first test against England around the corner, Rishabh Pant has confirmed that Shubman Gill will bat at four. He also revealed his batting position before mentioning that team management is having discussions on who will bat at three.

Speaking to reporters during the press-conference, he said: “There is still discussion going on who will bat at No 3. Shubman will go in at No 4 and I will bat at 5.”

With the batting positions of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant defined now, the Indian batting order speaks for itself. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to open the innings while it is speculated that one of Sai Sudharsan or Abhimanyu Easwaran will take the number three position.

Karun Nair is also expected to find a place in the XI. While Ravindra Jadeja will be there as a spin-bowling all-rounder. There is also likely to be a toss-up between Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy for the fourth seamer’s place.
