Rishabh Pant fractured his toe after getting hit by Chris Woakes’ delivery on day 1 of the Manchester test.
Rishabh Pant is all over social media because of his brave decision to come out to bat despite suffering a lot of pain. Day 1 of the fourth test between England and India in Manchester ended with a big setback for the visitors as Pant’s scans confirmed a fracture on his right toe.
On fourth ball of the 68th over in first innings, Pant tried to play an audacious reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. But, the ball hit his boot, and he was down with pain. Pant had to leave the field and was taken for scans. Later, it was confirmed that he fractured his toe on his right foot, raising doubts on his participation in remainder of the ongoing Manchester test.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated on day 2 that Pant would be available as per the team’s requirement to bat and Dhruv Jurel would be doing the wicket-keeping duties. And on day 2, after Shardul Thakur got out, Pant was seen hobbling off from the dressing room to the wicket.

Rishabh Pant, who couldn’t walk on day 1 after getting hit, was seen limping out of the Indian dressing room to join Washington Sundar at the crease. Shardul got out off Ben Stokes after scoring a gritty 41 off 88, bringing one of the rarest moments in Indian cricket history. Pant’s arrival was welcomed with a loud cheer and a standing ovation from the Manchester crowd.

Notably, some reports claimed that Pant would be needing six weeks to recover from his injury. That raised doubts about his availability for remainder of the game. The Indian test vice-captain was certainly in pain, and it was visible in the way he was running.
He looked in discomfort while batting and avoided quick singles. Pant’s presence in the ongoing test is very important for India. Because as per ICC’s law, Pant’s wicket-keeping replacement Jurel won’t be able to bat, and India will be left with only ten batters. This is a must-win game for the visitors to keep their hopes of series win alive.
At lunch on day 2, India are at 321/6 off 105 overs. 60-70 runs from here will solidify India’s position in this game. Currently the last recognized batting pair of Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar is on the crease.
