Rishabh Pant has been out of action since December 2022.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has revealed one condition on which Rishabh Pant can be a part of the Indian cricket team squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The T20 WC will be played in the West Indies and the USA from June 2. India will play all of their Group A matches in the USA.

Notably, Rishabh Pant was involved in a near-fatal accident in December 2022. The accident had left Pant with a severe right knee injury that required ligament reconstruction surgery besides a fractured wrist and ankle. But he has done well to bounce back.

He has participated in a handful of practice matches at the NCA in Bengaluru and has batted well. Not only this, but Pant is also set to return to action in the upcoming IPL 2024. His IPL team Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting has already stated that he will captain the side as well.

Parth Jindal, the Capitals’ co-owner, told ESPNcricinfo last month that Pant “has started his wicket-keeping.” Jindal further stated that Pant was “likely to be fully fit for the IPL” and that he expected Pant to “lead from match one.”

He is a big asset for us: Jay Shah on Rishabh Pant playing in the T20 World Cup for India

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has stated that Pant, who is due to make his much-anticipated return to the IPL, will play in the T20 World Cup; however, the BCCI boss has placed a condition for Pant to meet before doing so.

He is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit very soon. If he can play in the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us. If he can keep, he can play in the World Cup. Let’s see how he does in the IPL,” Shah told PTI.

Rishabh Pant had played in the last two T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022 for India but missed the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup 2023 for India due to his accident.
