Watch: Rishabh Pant watches on as Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul bat together at the NCA
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are expected to be back in India colors for the Asia Cup 2023.
Rishabh Pant was in the audience when Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul batted in a practice match at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore today (August 14).
All three cricketers, in addition to pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, were together at the NCA at one time, recovering and rehabbing from their respective injuries. Bumrah and Krishna have seemingly left the NCA after receiving green signal on their fitness, as Krishna was seen bowling in the KSCA Maharaja Trophy.
However, the BCCI is still fretting over the fitness of Shreyas Iyer and Rahul, given their importance in the Indian team’s middle order, as the Men in Blue are struggling to find an alternative to Rahul and Iyer to solidify the middle-order of their batting unit.
Iyer underwent back surgery after experiencing pain after Sri Lanka ODI series early this year and then again during the home test series against Australia. He then had to miss the IPL 2023 and other series that India played in an attempt to get fit in time for the Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Rahul, on the other hand, suffered a thigh injury during IPL 2023 and missed other engagements after undergoing surgery in London to fix the issue.

India have three campaigns left before the World Cup. Including three T20Is in Ireland, the Asia Cup, and three ODIs against Australia at home. India have left all three out for the Ireland tour, but there has been growing speculation about Rahul and Iyer making it in time for the Asia Cup.
Pant survived a major car crash eight months back, but is now easing into cricket. However, he is certain not to make it in time for the World Cup and might not play any cricket this year.
However, while at the NCA, Rishabh Pant shared an exclusive video of Shreyas and Rahul batting in full flow prior to their rumored Asia Cup returns.

India are yet to announce their squad for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup. Co-hosted by defending champions Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup will get underway in Multan with Babar Azam’s Pakistan locking horns with Nepal on August 30.
