Roelof van der Merwe takes a splendid catch of Steve Smith.

Roelof van der Merwe proved again that age is just a number, as he took an excellent catch to dismiss Steve Smith in the ongoing Australia vs Netherlands ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match. This encounter is being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 25, 2023.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat first on a batting-friendly track in Delhi. They made one change as Cameron Green came in place of Marcus Stoinis. Stoinis has a hamstring niggle and has been rested for this encounter. Netherlands are unchanged.

Australia came into this match after defeating Sri Lanka and Pakistan in their last two games. Netherlands, on the other hand, stunned South Africa and lost to Sri Lanka.

Logan van Beek gave Netherlands the perfect start as he dismissed the dangerous Mitchell Marsh caught by Colin Ackermann for nine runs. But after that, the veterans Steve Smith and David Warner went to work. The experienced duo added 132 runs for the second wicket to build a platform for a bigger score in the last few overs.

Steve Smith looked in a hurry as he had scored 71 runs in 68 balls with nine fours and one six to his name. He was looking ominous, and that’s when captain Scott Edwards brought on Aryan Dutt to show his magic.

On the third ball of the 23rd over, Aryan Dutt bowled a ball back of the length delivery outside the off-stump. Smith’s eye lit up, and he jumped on the back foot and cut the ball as hard as he could. However, the ball went uppishly towards van der Merwe at backward point.

Van der Merwe was ready, but despite the ball being near his shins, he went with the reverse cup. He managed to get the ball cleanly with his hand touching the ground.

Australia are batting on 228 after the loss of two wickets in 34 overs. Australia are looking to go for a big total in a batting friendly wicket.
