Shashank Singh was retained by Punjab Kings for INR 5.50 crores ahead of IPL 2025.

Rohit Sharma has been termed the “dream captain” by Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) middle-order batsman Shashank Singh. He praised Rohit’s attitude while leading the team and praised him for supporting his players.

At the IPL 2024 auction, Punjab Kings selected Shashank under suspicious circumstances after they bid for him in the accelerated round because they were confused and thought he was another player with the same name.

The franchise later clarified, though, that the Shashank they ultimately chose was always on their target. In the end, he was signed for INR 20 lakhs, which was his base price.

He ended up becoming the team’s top run scorer, scoring 354 runs at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65 in 14 games, despite the aforementioned incidents. He went on to become one of their finest players of the season.

I wish to play under him at least once: Shashank Singh on Rohit Sharma

The reason Rohit enjoys a good rapport with his teammates, according to Shashank, is because he tends to keep things casual and his on-field banter with the players.

Shashank mentioned playing alongside Rohit while he was a member of the Mumbai team in domestic cricket. Shashank made an impression with his aggressive and strategic knocks for PBKS in IPL 2024.

The 33-year-old batting all-rounder disclosed that playing for the two-time ICC trophy-winning captain Rohit is his ambition.

“Everyone says that he [Rohit] backs his players to the hilt; gives them plenty of chances. He is a very smart captain. His one-liners (on the field) are also quite funny. If you ask me one captain I would want to play under, it will be Rohit Sharma.

He is from Bombay. I have also batted with him once. He was not the captain back then. I want to play under his leadership, that’s my wish,” Shashank Singh said on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.

Shashank Singh was one of the two players retained by PBKS before IPL 2025, the other being Prabhsimran Singh. He was retained for a price tag of INR 5.50 crores.
