Rohit Sharma was removed as Mumbai Indians’ captain ahead of the IPL 2024.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are one of the most successful side in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK under MS Dhoni‘s leadership won their fifth IPL title in the IPL 2023 and equaled the record for most number of titles with Mumbai Indians (MI). CSK defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 final played at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.

MS Dhoni is most likely to step aside as a player at the end of IPL 2024 and CSK will begin their search for new captain. Ravindra Jadeja was tested, but he failed miserably as captain in the IPL 2022. Former MI and CSK star Ambati Rayudu has expressed his desire to see Rohit Sharma in the CSK camp and lead the ‘Men in Yellow’ from IPL 2025. There will be a mega auction before the IPL 2025.

Former CSK star Ambati Rayudu said that Rohit Sharma can play in the IPL for next 5-6 years and he will be a perfect pick for CSK as a skipper. Rayudu said, “Rohit Sharma can play IPL for the next five-six years. If he wants to captain, the whole world is open for him. He can easily captain wherever he wants.” Rohit Sharma captained Mumbai Indians since from IPL 2013 to 2023.

Rayudu expressed his personal desire while talking to News24 and said, “I want to see him play for CSK in the near future. He has played so long for Mumbai Indians. It would be nice if he can play for CSK and win there as well. That’s (captaincy at CSK) upon him. Rohit has earned the right to take that call. It’s his call on whether or not he wants to lead or not.”

After winning the IPL 2023 title, CSK skipper MS Dhoni announced that he will be coming back to play in the league for one more season for his fans. IPL 2024 is likely his last season with the bat. IPL 2024 will begin on 22nd March where defending champions CSK taken on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening encounter at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
