Indian Cricket Team ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared a heartfelt message on completing 18 years in international cricket. The opening batter made his debut for the team on 23rd June 2007 as a youngster, and around two decades later, he is one of the biggest superstars of the game.
Rohit Sharma has been one of the finest players to have played the game of cricket. From being trolled for his inconsistency to one of the best players in world cricket, his journey has been remarkable. He has put in plenty of hard work and is now the team’s backbone in the ODIs.
For the last two decades, Rohit Sharma has been carrying the Indian batting lineup alongside Virat Kohli. Ever since he was promoted to open the innings in 2013, he has transformed into a different beast and become one of the finest opening batters.
Rohit Sharma excelled in the white-ball challenge as an opener, but what was even more impressive was how he adapted to the opening role in tests when the team management promoted him in 2019. He is still the leading run-getter for the team in the history of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).
Apart from his batting heroics, Rohit Sharma was also appointed as the captain of the team in all formats after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. After struggling initially, he changed the mindset of the team and guided them to a win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is and Tests
After winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as captain, Rohit called time on his career in T20Is. Last month, ahead of the ongoing India’s tour of England 2025, the batter retired from the tests as well and now will be playing only in ODIs.
As he completed 18 years in international cricket, Rohit Sharma shared a photo on his Instagram story. He posted a picture of his Indian helmet and captioned it: “Forever grateful, 23.06.07.”

Rohit Sharma, who is rated as a legend in ODIs, recently expressed his desire to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. He would be keen to give his best to win the tournament and sign off his career in style.
