Rohit Sharma breaks AB de Villiers' record of hitting most ODI sixes in a calendar year

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has so far hit 60 sixes in ODIs this year.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have been magnificent in their opening partnership and made their intentions clear from the first ball. Rohit Sharma has been in red-hot form in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and smashed runs all round the park against every single opposition India took on.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has now gone past Mr. 360 AB de Villiers in a special feat in ODI cricket. Rohit Sharma has now become the batter to hit the most number of sixes in ODIs in a calendar year. Rohit has smashed 60 sixes in ODIs this year and has overtaken former South African skipper AB de Villiers who smashed 58 sixes in 2015. AB De Villiers had his golden year during the time of World Cup 2015. 

Rohit overtakes AB De Villiers

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is playing his 25th ODI this year and so far he has smashed 60 sixes and will be looking to extend his lead more. Rohit has scored more than 1100 runs and his strike rate has been over 114 in this year. Rohit has adapted an aggressive approach this year, which was seen by the likes of De Villers and Brendon McCullum way of the World Cup 2015 and he is looking to hit the ball from the world itself. Rohit also has smashed most sixes in the ongoing tournament.

AB De Villiers was also brilliant in the World Cup 2015 and he carried on his great form throughout that year. He also smashed the fastest hundred against the West Indies just before the World Cup 2015. AB De Villiers scored 58 sixes that year in just 20 games. De Villiers went on to score 1193 runs in 18 innings. He batted with a magnificent strike rate of 137.91, he smashed 5 centuries and 5 half-centuries to celebrate his success in 2015. 

Chris Gayle is 3rd in this list with 56 ODI sixes in a year. Rohit Sharma has completed his half-century against Netherlands in Bengaluru. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma added 100 runs in 11 overs and provided India their usual start of the World Cup 2023. The stage looks set for India to aim for a big total and give fans a great Diwali gift. Shubman Gill departed after scoring 51 runs in 32 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes.
