Indian captain Rohit Sharma achieved an unwanted record in the last Super Four clash of Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s half-century streak came to an end after losing his wicket on a second-ball duck against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash. Rohit lobbed one up in the air only to be caught at cover-point by Anamul Haque and went back to the pavilion without adding a run into the Indian team’s score. Bangladesh has a wonderful start to their target defence as they got the big fish early in the innings. With this second-ball duck, Rohit also equaled former captain Virat Kohli’s unwanted numbers in a batting record.

Rohit's 2nd duck as captain:

This was Rohit Sharma’s 15th duck in the One-day International cricket and that also equaled to the number of times Virat Kohli has got out on a duck in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli in his 268 ODI innings got out on duck 15 times and Rohit equaled that number in just 242 ODI innings. Legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for getting the most number of ducks in ODI cricket for India. Sachin got out on the score zero 20 times in his career in 452 ODI innings. All of these are Cricket’s biggest ambassadors in the country.

As a captain, this was Rohit Sharma’s second duck as a captain in the ODIs. Before this game, Rohit Sharma got a duck against England at Lord’s when he was trapped in front against left-arm pacer Reece Topley. Team India failed to chase down 247 runs in that innings and lost the game by 100 runs. Rohit is one duck behind equalling former captain Virat Kohli, Kohli got three ducks as captain in the One-day International format. Sourav Ganguly holds the record of getting the most ducks as captain in ODIs. He got 9 out of his 16 ducks as Indian captain.

Rohit Sharma had a wonderful Asia Cup 2023 campaign so far as he scored three back-to-back half-centuries against Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Rohit scored an unbeaten 74 runs against Nepal, then played a blistering knock of 56 runs in 49 balls against Pakistan to give them India a great start in a high-octane game. Then in the previous game against Sri Lanka, he had scored 53 runs in a low-scoring battle. Bangladesh after picking up Rohit early, put the pressure on Indian batters and kept on taking wickets.
