Rohit Sharma made 86 runs in 63 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes against Pakistan.
On Saturday, October 14, during India's commanding seven-wickets victory against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, cricket fans were treated to a remarkable knock by Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
Having won the toss, Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first. With Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan both set and prepared to bat, Pakistan appeared to be on track for a large total at 155/2. But when Mohammed Siraj bowled Babar Azam, Pakistan's situation quickly deteriorated. They lost their final eight wickets for just 36 runs before being bowled out for 191 runs.
Rohit Sharma had a go at Pakistani bowlers from the start of Indian innings. Sharma scored 86 runs off 63 balls, while Pakistani players failed to smash a single six. Sharma hit six fours and six sixes. As India won by seven wickets, Shreyas Iyer finished the job by remaining unbeaten at 53.
“He was asking me how am I hitting so many big sixes”- Rohit Sharma on why he flexed his biceps to Marais Erasmus
Indian skipper played an amazing innings, pulling Haris Rauf for a maximum that sailed deep backward square leg and into the stands around eight rows back. This ball, which was bowled at 141.1 kph, was the first one of the 15th over. Rohit was seen flexing his bicep after making this huge six to umpire Marais Erasmus, and this move quickly went viral.
Hardik Pandya donned the anchor's hat for Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) media team after the match was over. The star all-rounder asked his captain to explain the gesture.
Rohit revealed that Marais Erasmus asked him if there was something in his bat that was helping him hit such long sixes. In reply, the cricketer told Erasmus that it was his power and not the bat.
"Arey vo (Erasmus) mujhe puch raha tha ki itna lamba chakka kaise maarte ho?Ye there bat mein kuch hai? Maine bola bat mein nahi bhai power hai [Erasmus was asking me how I was hitting such long sixes and if there was anything in my bat. I just told him that it was my power and not the bat]," Rohit told Hardik.
With the win over Pakistan, India moved to the top spot in the World Cup points table. They also received a significant Net Run Rate (NRR) boost, which stands at +1.821.
