Rohit Sharma also was critical of India's fielding in the Group A match against Nepal in Asia Cup 2023.
India have decimated Nepal by 10 wickets to qualify for the Super 4 round in style in Asia Cup 2023. Team India have joined Pakistan as the second team from Group A in the Super 4 round after their win over Nepal in the final Group A league game. The game was also on the verge of being washed out once again but conditions came in favour and umpires allowed 23 overs in India’s chase. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Nepal to bat first. Nepal had a wonderful opening start as Kushal Bhurtel (38) and Aasif Shaikh (58) added 65 runs for the first wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja curtailed Nepal’s middle order with his 3-wicket spell but Sompal Kami (48) and Dipendra Singh Airee (29) made Nepal go past 200. India’s target was cut short due to rain in the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method as Team India chased down 145 runs without losing a wicket. Captain Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 74 runs while Shubman Gill also remained not out on 67 runs. India needed a washout or a win against Nepal to qualify for the Super 4 round and now they have booked their clash with Pakistan one more time in the tournament.
Rohit Sharma awarded Player of the Match
Player of the Match Rohit Sharma was happy to finish the game for India but he also admitted that there were a few butterflies in the stomach before walking out to bat. Rohit said, “To start with, there were some nerves but once I got my eye in, I wanted to cash in and get my team home.”
Rohit Sharma also felt that these two games would not give a clear picture of the World Cup. He further added, “We can’t really look too much into these two games, One was washed out but luckily we got time to bat in the first game and now bowl in this one. We haven’t been at our best… When we move in Super 4 there’s no room for complacency.”.
Nepal's spirited show in Asia Cup 2023
Everyone was impressed by Nepal’s spirited performance in the Asia Cup. Nepal did well with the new ball against Pakistan and India on Monday they showed great determination and grit in batting. Nepal captain Rohit Paudel felt that his team was 30 runs short due to faulty middle-order performance, Paudel said, “Our openers did a very good job for us. In the middle order we could have done better. We were maybe 30-40 runs short. If we had done better in that phase we could have got 26-270.” Paudel also praised his bowlers and said that they did a great job as the conditions were not in favour as gripping the ball was difficult.
