Rohit Sharma hasn’t confirmed anything, MCA on reports of ex-India captain playing in Vijay Hazare Trophy - Reports

Rohit Sharma only plays ODIs for India, having retired from T20Is in 2024 and from tests in 2025.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official Sanjay Patil has reportedly confirmed that they haven’t received any communication from legendary India batter Rohit Sharma about his participation in the upcoming domestic one-day competition, Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Some media reports recently claimed that Rohit Sharma has informed the MCA that he will be ready for the Vijay Hazare Trophy match on December 24.
According to sources, Rohit’s decision was influenced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) directive to him and Virat Kohli that they must play local cricket before being considered for India’s ODI selection.
“The board and team management have informed both of them that they must play domestic cricket if they wish to play for India. They both have retired from two formats, hence they must play domestic cricket to be match-fit,” a BCCI insider told The Indian Express.
Rohit Sharma, retired from T20Is and tests, only plays in ODIs for India and recently appeared in the three-ODI series in Australia, where he was the Player of the Series for his 73 and 121* in the last two ODIs.

Meanwhile, MCA chief selector Sanjay Patil has refuted all reports of Rohit Sharma confirming to the MCA about his participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament.
“I have not received any message from Rohit Sharma yet. But if he plays for Mumbai, it will be good for us. It will be a good thing for the youngsters. I really appreciate this great step by the BCCI, Ajit Agarkar (chief selector) and Gautam Gambhir (India head coach) (of asking India players to turn out for their teams in domestic cricket when available),” Patil told Times of India.
Another senior MCA official stated that he had not received any formal communication in this regard from the seasoned hitting great.
However, the fact that Rohit trained at the MCA-BKC ground for nearly an hour last week, when Mumbai were playing their home Ranji Trophy game against Himachal Pradesh.
The group stage of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 will take place between December 24, 2025, and January 8, 2026. Mumbai have been put in Elite Group C with Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Goa, and will play their matches at Jaipur.
Rohit Sharma will be next seen when India take on South Africa in a three-match ODI series at home from November 30.
