Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 came to a conclusion on Sunday, March 9 as India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to clinch their third Champions Trophy title.
Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring 76 off 83 balls to guide the Men in Blue through a tricky 252-run chase.
Thanks to a disciplined bowling performance in the first innings, India had restricted New Zealand to 251 runs. Spinners Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav led the way for India, picking up two wickets each, while Michael Bracewell played a crucial knock of 53 runs for the Kiwis.
In reply, India got off to a fantastic start, reaching the 100-run mark in the 18th over. However, they experienced a slight collapse, slipping to 122/3 in the 26th over. Shreyas Iyer (48) and Axar Patel (29) then stabilized the innings, adding 61 runs for the fourth wicket.
KL Rahul (34) and Hardik Pandya (18) kept the required run rate in check with a crucial 38-run stand for the fifth wicket. Ravindra Jadeja sealed the win with a boundary in the 49th over, securing India’s third ICC Champions Trophy title.
Following India’s win in the final, fans expected soon-to-be 38-year-old Rohit Sharma to take a call on his future. Notably, Rohit called it quits from T20Is after India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 under his leadership.

Speaking about his future in the post-match press conference, Rohit stated that he’s not thinking too far ahead and hasn’t made any decision regarding his retirement yet.
Rohit said, “Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (no future plan, whatever is happening will continue).”
“I am not retiring from this format (ODI). Going forward please don’t spread rumours,” the Indian skipper added.
Earlier, Rohit had mentioned that he hasn’t decided on his retirement from test cricket. However, the Indian captain will need to perform well in the five-match test series against England in June to solidify his position, especially after his lackluster performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia.
