Rohit Sharma managed just 31 runs in the BGT 2024-25.

Rohit Sharma had a rough 2024 in test cricket. The Indian captain scored 619 runs in the tests in 2024 at an average of 24.76. The Indian captain has faced severe criticism not only for his batting form but also for his captaincy in the longest format.

Rohit started the year on a good note with two centuries against England in the five-match home test series. Opening the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit provided solid starts for the Indian team and played a key role in their 4-1 series victory.

However, his form took a significant dip in the second half of the test season from September onwards. The experienced opener managed just one half-century in eight tests against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia and struggled against both spinners and fast bowlers.

Things went from bad to worse when his poor scores forced him to drop himself for the last test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Sydney.

The underwhelming performances of the Indian captain in test cricket have sparked discussions about his participating in domestic red-ball matches when he doesn’t have international commitments.

The defending champions Mumbai are set to face Jammu and Kashmir on January 23 as they resume their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 campaign. The team is expected to train throughout the week leading up to the important match. Rohit trained with the Mumbai team for a couple of hours on Tuesday but is not certain of playing in their next Ranji game.
