Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli haven’t been part of India’s T20I squad after the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Team India’s two superstars, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, have not played any T20I after the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final game against England in Australia last year. Since then, the Indian selectors have started looking at a younger lot to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies next year. With India losing the first two T20I games against West Indies, fans are reminding team management of senior players continuously ignored from the T20I team selection.

The young team under Hardik Pandya faced disappointment in the two close games against the West Indies. Team India captain Rohit Sharma has come out and cleared the air around his T20I selection. Rohit has talked about the Workload management of senior players in the World Cup year.

Rohit on why he is not playing T20Is:

Indian captain Rohit Sharma said, “At the moment, I think it was made clear in the past that it’s a 50-over World Cup year for us. And for some of the guys, it’s not possible to play all formats. If you look at the schedule, there were back-to-back matches, so we decided to just look at some players’ workloads that we wanted to make sure that they get enough break time and manage them. I definitely fall in that category as well.”

Rohit Sharma was in the United States of America for an event. Rohit Sharma was the captain when India lost the semi-final against England in the last T20 World Cup prompting team management to make some changes in the squad.

After the 5-match T20I series against West Indies, India will be travelling to Ireland for a 3-match T20I series and then they will concentrate on the 50-overs format till the World Cup gets over on 19th November. Hardik Pandya is India’s captain in the West Indies tour, while Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the T20I squad in the Ireland tour.

The chances of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma coming back to the T20I squad looks very grim with the kind of young talent India get from the IPL. The only that can prompt a change in plans once again will be India getting no positive results in the next few series. The next T20 World Cup will be played in West Indies and the USA in June 2024. India will look to secure the right balance before the IPL 2024.
