Yashasvi Jaiswal had earlier received NOC from the Mumbai Cricket Association to move to Goa.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Ajinkya Naik has revealed that, despite receiving No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the association, Yashasvi Jaiswal was stopped from moving to Goa by none other than Rohit Sharma. Naik stated that Jaiswal was persuaded by Rohit to remain faithful to the group that provided him with the opportunity to develop his career and display his talent.

After getting a captaincy offer from Goa earlier this year during the Indian Premier League (IPL), Jaiswal asked the MCA for a NOC. Jaiswal later changed his mind, though, and requested that the MCA revoke the NOC, reaffirming his intention to play for Mumbai in the 2025–2026 season.

In 2019, Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Mumbai First-Class (FC) debut. In 43 DC games, the 23-year-old has amassed 4,233 runs at a remarkable average of 56.44, including 15 hundreds and 15 fifties. In the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 113, 122, 203, and an unbeaten 60.

For the first time, Jaiswal participated in the entire 2021–22 Ranji Trophy season, scoring three straight hundreds to lead Mumbai to the championship game. His success at home led to a call-up to the national team and an IPL spell with the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

“It was because of Mumbai cricket, he played for India”- Rohit Sharma reminded Yashasvi Jaiswal

After getting advice from Rohit Sharma to remain in Mumbai during this pivotal period of his career, Yashasvi Jaiswal changed his mind about moving to Goa.

The pride and heritage of playing for a team with as much history as Mumbai, which has won 42 Ranji titles, were emphasized by Rohit. Jaiswal decided to stay in Mumbai after speaking with other Mumbai and Indian players, and the MCA granted his plea to revoke the NOC for the relocation to Goa.

“Rohit asked Yashasvi to stay on in Mumbai at this stage of his career. He (Rohit) explained to Yashasvi that there was a lot of pride and prestige in playing for a team like Mumbai, which has won the Ranji Trophy a record 42 times.

Rohit also told Yashasvi that he must not forget that it was because of Mumbai cricket that he got a platform to show his talent and go on to play for India, and he must be grateful to the city for that. It was here in Mumbai that he started playing cricket on the maidans and then was picked for all the age group teams of Mumbai,” Mumbai Mirror quoted MCA president Ajinkya Naik as saying.

The five-match Test series against England was when Jaiswal was last seen playing. With 411 runs from 10 innings at an average of 41.10, including two hundreds and two half-centuries, he was one of India’s standout players during the series.
