Rohit Sharma played a magical innings of 78 runs in MI vs KKR clash of IPL 2026.
Mumbai Indians (MI) scripted a commanding run chase to end their 14-year long streak of losing opening matches in Indian Premier League (IPL). After 2012, this was the first time MI emerged victorious in their first match, courtesy a six-wicket victory to beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
After getting smashed around the park with the ball, MI bounced back quickly on the back of a splendid 100+ partnership between openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. The rest of the chase was a formality, and while MI slightly faltered at the end, they managed to get the job done in the first ball of the last over.

Rohit Sharma returned to cricket action with a sensational innings in the opening match against KKR, a team he enjoys batting against. He scored a rapid 78 and provided his team with the ideal start and foundation, as they successfully chased down the biggest total ever at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL history.
In doing so, Sharma broke several massive records. He boasts a tremendous record at the Wankhede Stadium, and is the highest run-getter at the venue. He crossed 2,500 runs at Wankhede, becoming only the second player to do so at a single venue, second only to Virat Kohli, who has hit 3,271 runs at Bengaluru.
Sharma also completed his 50th 50+ score in IPL. He holds a really good record against KKR, and his today’s knock saw him surpass Kohli for most runs against an opposition. He is also the only batter to score 1000+ runs in MI vs KKR matches.
Rohit’s 78 off 38 was aided by 6 fours and 6 sixes, and he also became the first Asian batter to smash 550+ sixes in T20s.
