Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 came to a conclusion on Sunday, March 9 as India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final to clinch their third Champions Trophy title.

It was a memorable tournament for India’s two most senior batsmen, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, as both delivered Player of the Match performances in the semi-finals and finals against Australia and New Zealand respectively.

With the win, Rohit became only the second Indian captain to win two ICC tournaments, alongside MS Dhoni, who led the team to three ICC tournament triumphs.

Chasing 252, Rohit was at his best, blasting 76 off 83 balls to give the team an excellent start in the tight run chase. His innings allowed middle-order batsmen KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Axar Patel to take their time and rotate the strike in the middle overs.

After India’s victory, Rohit also addressed the social media rumours about his and Virat Kohli’s retirement from the ODI format following the completion of the tournament.

Even before going to the post-match press conference, Rohit Sharma jokingly clarified while celebrating the win on the field that he and Virat Kohli are not going to retire.

Rohit was heard telling the camera, “Abhi ham koi retire nahi ho rahe. Inko lag raha hai. (We are not retiring right now. They think we are.)” Few users on social media have also claimed that Rohit let some expletives out in this video, which is yet to be verified.

Rohit addressed the question again in the post-match press conference, saying, “There are no future plans, whatever is happening will continue. I am not retiring from this format (ODI). Going forward, please don’t spread rumours.

Rohit had previously also clarified that he has not decided on his future in test cricket and is focused on taking one game at a time.
