ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma provides update on Shubman Gill ahead of IND vs AUS match

Shubman Gill was diagnosed with dengue ahead of IND vs AUS ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match.
The much-awaited clash between India and Australia is set to kick off on Sunday in Chennai. Both teams will come face-to-face at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for their opening games. This match will set the tone for the team that wins, and the losing team might have to rethink their plans. These two teams have some of the biggest names on their sides, which will make this contest exciting.
It will be his first game as a captain for Rohit Sharma in the World Cup, and he will look to take India to victory. The hosts are likely to go with the full-strength team but suffered a set-back when young opener Shubman Gill was diagnosed with dengue a couple of days ahead of the all-important IND vs AUS clash in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Shubman Gill is an important part of the Indian setup, and his form in the last year or so has been incredible. He is the highest scorer in ODIs combined in all three formats in 2023 and scored a hundred and a half-century against Australia in the two ODIs he played last month. Gill's absence can leave a big hole at the top of the order because of his ability to score consistent runs.
Even Indian captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Shubman Gill is not 100 percent, and it is unlikely that he will play on Sunday. In the press conference on the eve of IND vs AUS clash, Rohit said that Gill is ill, but the medical team is monitoring him. However, he also hinted that the 23-years-old is likely to miss the game when asked by a reporter.
Rohit said, "Shubman Gill is not 100%, but he's sick. Gill is not feeling well. No, don't worry. I mean, obviously, he is sick. I feel for him. But in terms of, you know, me being the human being first, I want him to get well, not the captain thinking, Oh, I want Gill to play tomorrow. No, I want him to get well. You know, he's a young guy; he's got a fit body, so he'll recover. He'll recover quick." Ishan Kishan is likely to open if Shubman Gill does not make it to the playing XI.
